ZÜRICH  -- A City On the Move
By Bob Enzel

Rodin exhibit at the Kunsthaus Zürich and Kannon exhibit at the Rietberg Museum.

Two of the many exhibition highlights in the upcoming Zürich art scene will feature Auguste Rodin and Kannon.  “The Kiss;” “The Thinker” and “The Burghers of Calais” by Rodin will be on display at the Kunsthaus Zürich.  Kannon, known for his Buddhist art will be available after a three-year renovation at the Rietberg Museum.

Only a few of Kannon’s 7th to 14th century works on display from February 18 – April 9, 2007 have ever been seen outside of Japan. Along with the Kannon exhibit, the Rietberg Museum’s new building, “The Emerald” will show off its glass pavilion’d spectacular architecture.

Together with the Musee Rodin in  Paris and the Royal Academy in London , the Kunsthaus Zürich will proudly display a selected cross-section of Rodin’s works from  all over the world and rarely seen pieces from the Rodin estate.  On the Kunsthaus’s façade, Rodin’s “Gates of  Hell” has been meticulously restored to its previous magnificience.

Distinct Shopping Area.

A new Sihicity District is emerging in the southern end of Zurich centering around a former paper finishing factory.  The historically protected building almost a century old will feature movie shows, shopping, and gastronomic delights along with wellness facilities.  Those who are familiar with Zurich are aware that Zurich is a city that is constantly on the move and will not be surprised to know that other projects are in the pipeline…

Jewels from the Bahnhofstrasse

Not just jewels, but most everything shoppers like to window shop for and/or eventually to buy as gifts and favorite items. Zürich is of course known for its luxury items and exceptionally fine watches,  but that’s only the tip of the shopping iceberg

Highlights in the Zürich Region

There are lots to see and do around Zürich.   One of the fun things of touring is the ability to pick and choose odd things to see and fun things to do.  Fortunately, for anyone with an adventurous spirit they can have a great time driving around the Zurich region.

Here are a number of fun things to do:  Swim in Europe’s biggest indoor water park is in nearby Pfaffikon; relax at the former Roman Quarry in Wurenlos offers wellness and relaxation;  or experience a fondue meal on a Zurich mountain.  Visit the Winterthur Photo Musuem; the Knies Children’s Zoo or a visit to the Castle Kyburg Museum to view a a kitchen and torture chamber from Medieval times.  Other fun things are to visit the Retiaqpltazhine Falls, Europe’s largest waterfall or perhaps visit some of the ski resorts outside of Zurich, such as, Engelberg, Meiringen or Toggenburg, all are within a couple hours ride.
