Holiday Time in
Switzerland
By Bob Enzel
Visiting Lucerne
It's too late to see Claudio Abbado and his world
renowned Lucerne Festival Orchestra at the Summer Festival and
also too late for the Fall World Band Festival, but it's not
too late to book yourself a room at the Hotel Astoria's newly opened
state-of-the art hotel extension (astoria-luzern.ch) in time to see the
thrilling UEFA EURO 08 event on December 2, 2007 (www.uefa.com/.)

For those who like to hike outside the city…
Davos and Klosters.
In Davos and Klosters Climate Change becomes Climate Hiking. Along the
2.5miles/
4-kilometer loop between the Silvretta Hut and the glacier,
15 stations inform the hiker about the glacier, glacial recession, Alpinism,
flora and fauna as well as mankind's use of the Alpine world.
Saas Valley…Jägihorn Rope Trail
The panoramic Jägihorn Fixed-Rope Trail, the highest
trail of its kind in the western Alps is not for the weak of heart. A
295-feet rope bridge, 328 feet in the air at almost a 10’000 feet peak. The
top-notch tour leaves nothing to be desired: 5 ladders, 400 hooks, and a
295-feet rope bridge 328 feet above the ground.
Or for those who’d rather ride…
Bernina Express.
Possibly the most beautiful railway route in the world
begins in Chur, Switzerland and continues along the Albula Route into the
Engadine Valley over the Bernina Pass and down to Tirano…without cogwheels.
It’s a time-stands-still old station building constructed of stone issuing
“cardboard tickets” stamped with a date. Any travler with a nostalgic bent
needs to ride this rail.
