Golf In Atlantic Canada
By Bob Enzel

The four provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland/Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island offer a number of top rated championship courses that should be of interest to East Coast golfers.

It is reasonably priced; offers top-notch golf courses; and is easy to get to from New York, Boston, Washington, DC, Philadelphia and Detroit via Delta, Continental, Northwest and United. The arrival cities of Halifax, Moncton, Charlottetown, and St. John’s are all included in tour packages or can easily be put together by do-it-yourselfers.

For instance, Maxxim Vacations offer’s four to seven night fly/drive/golf packages to New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador. Packages to Nova Scotia and PEI include roundtrip air from several cities including Los Angeles and Chicago.

There are lots of choices and very good values for those golfers willing to take a few moments to check out some of the web sites.

Why golf in Atlantic Canada? Here are a couple of very good reasons: the green fees are approximately 50% lower than the U.S.; the weather is temperate; the resorts are luxurious and historic; and there are 140 championship courses only a two hour flight from East Coast gateways; and the seafood is worth a visit all by itself.

A couple of courses that ought to attract golfers are: Canada’s newest, Humber Valley Resort in Newfoundland was designed by Doug Carrick and is spectacularly carved out of the forest along the Humber River; there is also the re-designed Algonquin Golf Course with the highest rating in New Brunswick Province located at the picuturesque town of St. Andrews-by-the-Sea. In PEI, the Links at Crowbush Cove located at the Rodd Crowbush Golf & Beach Resort just hosted Vijay Singh and Mike Weir in a charitable event (see story below.) Or, in Cape Breton Highlands Park in a green natural setting sits Highland Links, a Stanley Thompson designed course presents one of the “few true links designs in North America.”

Let the golfing begin…
