This is
just one of the eight state-owned and operated public golf facilities along
the Tennessee Golf Trail in the state. It is also one of the
most played. It is a par 72, 18 hole course located 45 miles south of
Nashville on the former estate of Henry H. Horton the 36th governor of
Tennessee and considered to be one of the finest in the state.
It is a
championship course measuring 5,625 yards from the ladies tees and depending
on which tees men choose to play range from 7,060 to 6,604 yards, thus
presenting a challenge to all golfers.
The
greens are bent grass and the fairways and rough are 419 Bermuda. Most
fairways are tree lined but not particularly narrow. Greens are larger than
average but the 37 bunkers on the course are strategically placed in
fairways and alongside many greens.
There is
a driving range, very large practice green, carts, on-site lodging, snack
bar, restaurant, club rentals, conference center, cabins, picnic area and
swimming. Tee times are required and reservations must be made six days in
advance.
