Danish Ambassador Friis Arne Petersen and Deputy Prime Minister Josef Motzfeldt of Greenland Home Rule Government hosted dignitaries, press and friends at the elegant Danish Embassy to commemorate the first ever direct airline route from the U.S. (Baltimore) to Greenland (Kangerlussuaq).
Greenland has a tough sell to convince Americans that it is an island worth visiting. But having been there and seen it for myself I highly recommend it for assuredly it will be (if it s not already) the center of the global warming issue. Greenland is only 400 miles from the Arctic Circle and has the largest Polar Ice Cap in the world and enormous ice bergs the size of buildings and perhaps glaciers that are receding or increasing depending on which end of the glacier you’re standing on.
Those in attendance were treated to the unmasking of Greenland’s infamous “Mask Dancing.” The performer showed the audience her tricks of the trade while the audience stood fascinated as she applied her scary makeup. Greenland was also showcasing its newest import beverages: beer, ale and Siku Vodka. Complimented by delicious food the atmosphere was festive.
PR Manager of Air Greenland, Jesper Kunuk Egede confirmed that Greenland was already looking at ways best to market Greenland for next year.
The young and the young at heart should definitely visit Greenland. All others should just continue southward to Florida
